About Us

Council of Mayors | South East Queensland

The Council of Mayors (SEQ) is Australia’s largest regional local government advocacy organisation, representing the South East Queensland (SEQ) region and the one in seven Australians who call SEQ home.

Our mission is to consistently deliver better regional funding, policy and collaborative outcomes for the Mayors, Councils and communities of SEQ.

The membership of the Council of Mayors (SEQ) consists of the Mayors representing 11 of the local government areas of SEQ: Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Lockyer Valley, Moreton Bay, Redland, Scenic Rim, Somerset, Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba.

With five out of the ten largest councils in Australia located in SEQ, the region is no longer just a series of disparate geographic areas but a region that functions as a single metropolitan area.

The Council of Mayors (SEQ) has three key priority areas:

  • icon-bus Economic Development
Identify and promote investment ready opportunities and convert relationships into investment, trade and jobs for the communities of South East Queensland.
  • icon-bus Infrastructure and Planning
Advocating for leading practice planning policy by all levels of Government, and playing a key role in lobbying for Federal and State investment in infrastructure to service our growing region.
  • icon-bank Waterways and Environment
A commitment to a regional approach to the management of our waterways and catchments, and the delivery of regionally consistent environment and sustainability priorities.
